Therapeutic action:
Diovan or Valsartan is a peripherical vasodilatator which possesses hypotensive properties. Diovan belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It specifically blocks angiotensin II receptors and does not affect angiotensine converting enzyme. The drug also has no affect on the quantity of cholesterol in blood, thyrotropic hormone, glucose or urea in blood. The drug starts to work in 2 hours after intake and is completely removed from the system in 24 hours. If taken regularly normal blood pressure can be monitored within 2-4 weeks of treatment. The drug does not have a withdrawal syndrome meaning that the treatment can be stopped suddenly.
